Nagpur: Strengthening emergency response and sanitation services, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) inducted six new mini fire tenders, 25 door-to-door garbage collection vehicles, and three poclain machines into its fleet. The vehicles were inaugurated at the civic headquarters by Mayor Nita Thakre on Monday.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Administrative Building at the NMC headquarters, where the Mayor flagged off the new vehicles in the presence of senior civic officials and public representatives.
6 Mini Fire Tenders to Tackle Narrow Lanes
Considering Nagpur’s rapid urban expansion across its 227 sq km area and the challenges posed by narrow roads in older localities, the Fire and Emergency Services Department has procured six new mini fire tenders with a capacity of 2,000 litres each.
The vehicles were purchased at a cost of ₹6.07 crore under the 2024–25 budget provision. Fabrication was completed by M/s Devi Fire Service, Solapur, and the vehicles were received by NMC on January 8, 2026.
With the addition of these six vehicles to the existing four, the city now has a total of 10 mini fire tenders capable of swiftly accessing congested and narrow areas during emergencies.
Apart from these, the Fire Department fleet includes:
7 fire tenders with 16,000-litre capacity
14 fire tenders with 5,000-litre capacity
One 70-metre hydraulic platform
One 32-metre hydraulic platform
One 42-metre Turn Table Ladder (TTL)
Officials said the expanded fleet will significantly strengthen the city’s firefighting capabilities and reduce response time in emergency situations.
25 New Garbage Collection Vehicles
Mayor Nita Thakre also flagged off 25 new door-to-door garbage collection vehicles under the Solid Waste Management Department. These vehicles will replace older ones and enhance waste collection efficiency across the city.
Out of the 25 vehicles:
Five will operate in Zones 6 to 10
Twenty will serve Zones 1 to 5
The vehicles were procured using ₹4.47 crore collected as penalty from waste management companies BVG and AG.
Poclains for Drain and River Cleaning
To improve pre-monsoon preparedness, NMC has also added three new machines for drain cleaning — one 25-ton long boom excavator for river cleaning and two smaller poclain machines (5-ton and 3.5-ton capacity) for narrow drains. The machines include one JCB and one Tata Hitachi NX50.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Nita Thakre reiterated that the civic body remains committed to enhancing public safety, sanitation, and infrastructure services for the citizens of Nagpur.
