Nagpur: On the third day of their agitation, members of NMC Contractors Welfare Association staged ‘Bhik Mango’ agitation to press for their various demands including clearance of their pending bills. The money collected in the ‘Bhik Mango’ agitation will soon be handed over to the NMC administration.

The NMC contractors gathered in front of chamber of Mayor Nanda Jichkar and raised slogans. The contractors also staged agitation at NMC’s new headquarters and old building.

Earlier on Wednesday, angry contractors of NMC gheraoed Mayor Nanda Jichkar for releasing their pending bills of developmental works. Mayor assured them to take a positive step to release their bills due from March-April 2018. The contractors demonstrated against administration for payment of their pending bills at administrative building.

The contractors will continue their agitation till their demands are met by the administration. Ravindra Thakre, Additional Commissioner and Sanjay Bangale, Chairman of Project Committee requested contractors to call-off their agitation as they will get payment within 15 days. However, contractors refused to honour their request and stated that they would continue their strike.

Vijay Nayudu, President of NMC Contractors Welfare Association claimed that administration did not release their payments since March. They met office bearers but only received an empty assurance. The Chief Accounts and Finance Officer has piles of files of pending bills. The administration is giving only assurances. The contractors alleged that administration has placed several hurdles in clearing the files paving way for corruption.
