Nagpur News: The NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane, who had suddenly gone on two-week leave, joined office on Monday. The first and the foremost challenging task the top NMC boss would go through is the presentation of Revised Budget for fiscal 2013-2014 to the Standing Committee at 12 noon on Tuesday (February 25). The Commissioner would be engrossed in the crucial figures of the Budget solely for one reason. Enforcement of Local Body Tax (LBT), in place of Octroi Duty, with his full might, according to information provided by Commissioner’s PA Anil Patil. The Standing Committee, before presenting the final Budget, sends the budgetary proposals to the Commissioner for approval. Generally, the Commissioner signs and seals the proposed Budget but with some amendments in one or the other head.

It may be recalled, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Wardhane had left the Standing Committee red-faced when he suddenly went on long leave without its permission. According to the laid down rules, the NMC Commissioner has to first forward his leave application to the Standing Committee which then sends the application to the State Government. The Standing Committee then accords its permission to the Commissioner’s leave application. However, the sudden leave resulted in several important proposals getting stalled and the day-to-day administration coming to a grinding halt. Top officials and other employees enjoyed the period of Commissioner’s absence to the hilt. But now every official and employee has gone on attention mode. One more aspect is being curiously anticipated by the NMC Administration. How much more time the Commissioner will be the guest of NMC? There is distinct possibility that after presenting the Revised Budget for 2013-14, Wardhane might announce his new assignment himself.

But before that, the Ruling Party office-bearers, who have a positive approach towards the Commissioner, believe and trust that the top boss will put up his final sign and seal on the pending proposals and files in the interest of the city’s development and NMC as well. On the other hand, the Opposition Party office-bearers have totally contradictory expectations. They are only waiting for a word on his transfer.
