Nagpur News: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) which is completing 150 years of its formation has decided to celebrate 150th centennial year from June 18, 2013 to June 17,2014. Since today being June 18, the day of 150th year celebration, the Mayor Anil Sole garlanded the statue of Nagpur’s first Mayor Bar Sheshrao Wankhede at the lawns of NMC’s Civil Lines office. After garlanding Wankhede’s statue, the Mayor planted saplings in the premises of NMC HQ and in the premises of the new Administrative Building named after the Great Maratha Warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The planting of saplings marked the beginning of the 150th centennial celebrations of NMC. Deputy Mayor Sandeep Jadhav, Standing Committee Chairman Avinash Thakre, NMC Commissioner Shyam Wardhane, Ruling Party Leader in NMC Praveen Datke, Additional Commissioner Hemant Pawar, Deputy Commissioner Ravindra Kumbhare, NMC Secretary Harish Dube, Development Engineer Rahul Warke, Executive Engineer (Electricity) S B Jaiswal, Garden Superintendent Naresh Shrikhande, Chief Fire Officer, Rajendra Uchake and other officials and employees were present on the occasion.
There after the Mayor Anil Sole garlanded and paid tributes to various great leaders on behalf of Nagpur citizens. The Mayor garlanded the statues of Raje Bakht Buland Shah, Vasantrao Naik, Dadasaheb Kannamwar near Vidhan Sabha, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Sanvidhan Square near RBI, Mahatma Gandhi at Variety Square, Jhansi Rani, Raje Raghuji Bhosale at Sakkardara Square, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj near Mahal Gandhi Gate, Bal Gangadhar Tilak near Gandhi Sagar Square, Dr Hedgewar at Reshimbagh Smriti Mandir, Panjabrao Deshmukh at Maharaj Bagh Square, Lal Bahadur Shastri in Gokulpeth, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar at Shankar Nagar Square etc.

Similarly, other Zone Chairmen, Corporators and Assitant Commissioners garlanded and paid tributes to great leaders, saints, memorials in the morning to mark the beginning of 150th centennial celebrations.
