NCB Arrests Woman for Stealing Gold Chain in E-Rickshaw

Nagpur: The Anti-Chain Snatching Squad of the Nagpur Crime Branch has arrested a woman accused of stealing a gold chain from a passenger’s purse while travelling in an e-rickshaw. Police have recovered the stolen gold chain, valued at approximately ₹1 lakh, from the accused.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Ajni Police Station.

Gold Chain Stolen During E-Rickshaw Ride

According to police, 54-year-old Meena Hatmode was travelling in an e-rickshaw from Tukdoji Putla towards Medical Square on September 1.

During the journey, an unidentified woman allegedly took advantage of the passenger’s attention being diverted and stole a gold chain from her purse.

Meena later discovered that the chain was missing and approached Ajni Police Station to lodge a complaint.

Crime Branch Tracks Down Suspect

Following the complaint, the Anti-Chain Snatching Squad of the Crime Branch launched an investigation.

Police conducted a technical investigation and also acted on confidential information received during the probe. Based on these leads, the police detained Usha Dungo (40), a resident of Rahatenagar Toli in Ajni.

During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to stealing the gold chain, police said.

Stolen Gold Chain Recovered

Police recovered the stolen gold chain from the accused. The recovered jewellery is estimated to be worth around ₹1 lakh.

Usha Dungo was subsequently handed over to Ajni Police for further legal action.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether the accused was involved in any other similar thefts in the city.
