
Nagpur: Yashodhara Nagar Police have busted a gang allegedly involved in stealing batteries from e-rickshaws in Nagpur. Two accused have been arrested, and police have recovered four stolen e-rickshaw batteries along with the two-wheeler allegedly used during the thefts.
E-Rickshaw Batteries Stolen From Outside House
The case came to light after Raviraj Wankhede, a resident of Sanjay Gandhinagar, approached Yashodhara Nagar Police and reported the theft of batteries from his e-rickshaw.
According to his complaint, he had kept the batteries of his e-rickshaw outside his house for charging. During the night of September 3, unidentified thieves allegedly stole the batteries and fled.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the theft.
CCTV Footage Provides Vital Clue
During the investigation, police obtained CCTV footage from the area. The footage reportedly provided important clues about the suspects and helped investigators track their movements.
While conducting routine patrolling in the area, police spotted two persons matching the description of the suspects.
The two were detained and questioned by the police.
Two Accused Arrested, Four Batteries Recovered
During questioning, the suspects were identified as Abdul Ibrahim and Ibrahim Khan.
Based on information allegedly provided by the accused, police recovered four stolen e-rickshaw batteries and the two-wheeler allegedly used in the crime.
The recovered property has been taken into police custody as part of the investigation.
Police Probe Possible Similar Thefts
Yashodhara Nagar Police are now investigating whether the accused were involved in other e-rickshaw battery thefts in Nagpur.
Police are also trying to determine where the stolen batteries were allegedly sold or disposed of and whether other persons were involved in the suspected theft network.
Further investigation is underway.
