Opened on 7th July by Manjot Singh Sodhi, his brother and their mother Kanwaldeep Kaur Desi Kitchen, as the name goes is an attempt to combine Indian food in a Western packaging that is easy to eat or take away – since every dish comes packed in its own cardboard container. Matching with this concept they have on their menu only burgers, sandwiches, kulchas and pasta in a choice of veggie, panner + cheese or chicken. They plan to introduce fish soon.

“We know fish is not commonly served in Nagpur ” says Manjot, ” but we tried various fish preparations at home and quite liked them, so we are going to put them on the menu. Fish is considered healthiest among non veg, so we want to offer it to our patrons.”

Desi kitchen is situated close to the IT park which has a lot of young crowd, hungry around lunch time, and also VNIT being bang opposite, prices have deliberately been kept low and affordable.

You can have a veg burger for Rs. 35/ only and it will still be as filling as a full meal or another burger costing maximum Rs. 109/ Non veg fare too comes in a range of Rs. 70/ to Rs. 129/. The burgers, kulchas and sandwiches come in huge serving sizes which can satisfy even the most famished soul. Home delivery is free up to a distance of 5 Kms.

The soul of any cuisine being its taste, customers will not be disappointed on this front either. All the stuffing is made from scratch and no frozen stuff is used to cut costs. Live, fresh chickens – called ‘khokha’- are bought everyday for making the non veg patties, no frozen business there also. For the pure vegetarians, they have ensured that the mayo they use generously is pure veg and does not contain eggs.

As you enter Desi Kitchen you see a place of pride given to various quotations from well known national and international celebrities.

One of them states – ‘You are given a little spark of madness. You must not lose it’ said Robin Williams, the Hollywood actor. When you try their ‘drinks’ ( non alcoholic strictly) called various tempting names like Venus, Sinful, Ms. Berry and Hazzeled, you know more than a little spark of madness has been harnessed!

After all as another sign in the restaurant declares confidently – The time to be awesome is now!

Go on Desi Kitchen, continue being awesome, we are loving it!
