Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has identified 1,282 potholes across the city ahead of Ganeshotsav, but the count has raised questions over whether the survey reflects the actual condition of Nagpur’s roads.
The city has around 4,587 km of roads, including nearly 2,772 km of tar roads. The NMC’s survey found potholes covering about 12,380 sq m.
Dharampeth reported the highest number with 353 potholes, followed by Hanuman Nagar with 280, Nehru Nagar 147, Laxmi Nagar 132, Ashi Nagar 125 and Mangalwari 119.

The civic body said 948 potholes had been repaired by August 31. Five Hot Mix Department teams have been deployed for urgent repairs, particularly on roads that will witness heavy movement during Ganeshotsav.
The NMC has also planned night-time repairs on busy stretches such as Zero Mile, Central Avenue and Sitabuldi to avoid traffic disruption. Roads used for the Pili and Kali Marbat processions will also be taken up.
However, residents have questioned whether all damaged roads were physically surveyed, particularly as several stretches continue to show widespread potholing and damaged surfaces.
The issue is further complicated by the fact that several roads within the city are maintained by agencies including NIT, NHAI, PWD and Maha Metro, making coordination over repairs another challenge.
With Ganeshotsav approaching, pressure is mounting on the civic administration to ensure that major procession routes and other damaged roads are repaired before the festival.
