Nagpur surges at 46.6, heat wave alert for next 4 days

As the days of Nautapa continue in Nagpur, the city is reeling under surging temperature. The mercury touched 46.6 degree Celcius on Saturday which has been the highest so far in this season. The temperature on the same date last year stood at 47 degree Celcius.

Nagpur Met Office sources informed that the heat wave alert has been issued for the next 4 days and the temperature may rise further.

Talking to Nagpur Today a Met official told that the highest ever temperature in Nagpur was 47.9 degree Celcius that was recorded on May 23, 2013.

However Met officials termed the existing heat wave as normal and routine of every year around this month. “There have been heat wave condition every year and this is the time when temperature remains hottest for the season,” said an official.

He said that the heat wave is expected to continue till next 4 days and on the 5th day there could be light rains.

“These are actually local rains which occur by thunderstorm clouds”, he said.

When asked about the monsoon prediction, he informed that this is the onset of monsoon and it is expected to hit Nagpur on time i.e. on June 10. Earlier the Met Office preducted that the monsoon may be dealyed by a week and was expected to arrive by June 15.
