Nagpur: Demonstrating how technology, vision and commitment can transform public service delivery, the Nagpur Rural Police has secured second rank in Maharashtra in the Chief Minister’s 150-day e-governance improvement evaluation programme. The achievement places the force among the state’s top performers and highlights its transition towards modern, transparent and citizen-centric policing.

The 150-day special campaign was conceptualised by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra with the objective of enhancing efficiency, accountability and service quality in government offices. The evaluation was conducted by the Quality Council of India across departments statewide. Among police establishments, only the top five Superintendent of Police offices were shortlisted, with Nagpur Rural SP Office clinching the second position by scoring an impressive 161 out of 200 marks.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Superintendent of Police Dr Harssh A. Digital transformation at the core

The assessment focused on key governance parameters such as official websites, e-office implementation, the Aaple Sarkar platform, dashboards, WhatsApp chatbots and innovation. Nagpur Rural Police achieved 100 per cent compliance across all parameters. Its official website, nagpurruralpolice.gov.in, provides a wide range of citizen services, including a multilingual WhatsApp chatbot in Marathi, Hindi and English, as well as a voice-search facility designed to assist differently-abled citizens.

AI, GIS and smart policing initiatives

Leveraging advanced technology, the department has adopted CrimeOS AI Copilot, with 127 officers trained and more than 260 cases investigated with enhanced speed and efficiency. Innovative initiatives such as SMART evidence recording, GIS-based crime mapping, face and object detection systems, and Smart Beat patrolling have significantly strengthened law-and-order management. Additional SP Anil Mhaske said technology has enabled the force to respond faster, act smarter and remain closely connected with citizens.

Second major honour in a year

This latest recognition adds to Nagpur Rural Police’s growing list of achievements. Earlier, the department had also secured second rank in the Chief Minister’s 100-day action plan, making it one of only two police establishments in Maharashtra to be honoured under both flagship initiatives. The award was presented on January 26, 2026, at Kasturchand Park by Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

The twin achievements firmly establish Nagpur Rural Police as a benchmark for efficient, tech-enabled and citizen-friendly policing in the state.
