Nagpur: A political controversy has erupted ahead of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction’s proposed ‘Ram Raksha’ protest scheduled for July 18, after the management of the Shri Ram Temple in Ramnagar refused permission to hold the event on its premises.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led faction had planned to begin its protest with a recital of the Ram Raksha Stotra at the temple before launching its campaign. However, the temple administration has declined the request, stating that no political programmes or activities will be permitted within the temple premises.
The decision has drawn attention because Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is a lifetime member of the Shri Ram Temple. The refusal has sparked political discussions, with opposition leaders questioning the timing and implications of the decision.
The Thackeray faction had intended to launch its campaign against the BJP from Nagpur, but the denial of permission is being viewed by political observers as an early setback to the planned agitation.
With access to the temple denied, attention has now shifted to where the Uddhav Thackeray camp will officially begin the ‘Ram Raksha’ protest and what its revised strategy will be ahead of the July 18 programme.
Note: The temple administration has maintained that the decision is based on its policy of not allowing political events inside the temple premises. No official response from the Uddhav Thackeray faction regarding its revised venue had been issued at the time of writing.
