Nagpur: With Eid-e-Milad, Raksha Bandhan, Dahi Handi and Ganeshotsav approaching, the Nagpur Police have stepped up preparations to maintain law and order across the city. A joint riot-control preparedness drill was conducted in the Sakkardara and Ajni divisions under Zone 4, followed by a flag march through sensitive areas to reassure residents of adequate security arrangements.
The drill was conducted on the directions of the Police Commissioner and under the guidance of Rashmita, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4. Police personnel participating in the exercise were equipped with lathis, helmets, shields, tear-gas guns and other riot-control equipment.
Following the drill, a flag march was conducted within the jurisdictions of Sakkardara and Nandanvan police stations. The march began near the Tajbagh Dargah and passed through Yasin Plot, Shahenshah Chowk, Azad Colony, Chhoti Masjid, Panchavati Ashram and Buland Gate before concluding at the commercial complex near Bada Tajbagh.
A total of 131 personnel participated in the exercise, including one Deputy Commissioner of Police, two Assistant Commissioners of Police, six senior police inspectors, 12 police sub-inspectors, 80 male and female police personnel, and 30 Home Guards.
Police officials said the exercise was aimed at assessing their preparedness to deal with any untoward situation during the festive period, maintaining law and order and creating a sense of security among citizens. The exercise is part of the city’s broader security preparations ahead of the upcoming festivals.
