Nagpur: Leaving no room for error after the controversy that led to the cancellation of the earlier examination, Nagpur Police have put in place an unprecedented multi-layered security arrangement for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination scheduled on June 21. From the arrival of question papers in the city to their final distribution at examination centres, every stage is being monitored under an extensive security protocol designed to ensure transparency, confidentiality and smooth conduct of the examination.
In a rare and highly secure operation, the question papers were flown into Nagpur aboard a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force. Following their arrival, the confidential material was placed in three secured bank lockers, where it remains under round-the-clock police protection. The Post Master General has been appointed as the nodal officer to supervise the handling and movement of the examination papers.
Officials said the transportation of the question papers has been classified as an extremely sensitive exercise. The sealed packets will be moved from the bank lockers to examination centres under armed police escort, with every route and security procedure meticulously planned in advance.
“Every movement has been carefully coordinated. The papers will remain under continuous surveillance and armed protection until they reach their designated centres,” a senior police official said.
The re-examination will be conducted at 30 centres across the district, including 29 centres within Nagpur city and one centre in Butibori under the jurisdiction of Nagpur Rural Police. A total of 11,984 candidates are expected to appear for the test.
To safeguard the process, Nagpur Police have deployed a formidable force comprising 414 constables and police personnel, supported by 29 officers of the rank of Assistant Police Inspector (API) and Police Sub-Inspector (PSI). Nearly 30 escort vehicles have also been stationed to ensure the secure transportation of the confidential examination material.
The responsibility for the movement and protection of the question papers has been entrusted to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), while Regional Additional Commissioners of Police will oversee security arrangements at their respective examination centres. Deputy Commissioners of Police and local police station teams will remain actively engaged throughout the operation.
Police officials emphasized that the security blueprint has been designed to eliminate any possibility of tampering, leakage or disruption. “Nothing is being left to chance. Multiple layers of security have been created, and each officer has been assigned a clearly defined responsibility. Our objective is to ensure a fair, transparent and incident-free examination,” an official stated.
As part of the final preparations, a full-scale mock drill will be conducted on June 20, a day before the examination. The exercise will simulate the transportation of question papers, escort deployment, communication networks and emergency response mechanisms to identify and address any potential vulnerabilities.
Authorities said the drill is intended to ensure operational readiness and seamless coordination among all agencies involved.
On examination day, all centres will remain under strict surveillance, with heightened monitoring of entry and exit points. Police teams will maintain a vigilant presence throughout the examination period to prevent any untoward incident and ensure that the crucial medical entrance test is conducted in a secure and orderly manner.
The extraordinary security measures reflect the administration’s determination to restore confidence in the examination process and guarantee a fair opportunity for thousands of aspiring medical students.
