Nagpur: In a major preventive measure ahead of the Bakrid festival, Nagpur City Police have issued temporary externment orders against several persons with criminal backgrounds to maintain law and order and prevent any disturbance to communal harmony during the festival period.
Police said the action has been taken under Section 163(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) against individuals suspected of being capable of creating communal tension through illegal activities such as transportation of prohibited cattle and sale of banned beef.
According to officials, the decision was taken after serving notices to the concerned individuals and hearing their side. Police also relied on confidential intelligence inputs and technical information while assessing potential threats to public peace and security.
Under the externment orders, the identified individuals have been barred from entering the limits of Nagpur City and Nagpur Rural districts from May 21, 2026, to May 31, 2026.
Police warned that strict legal action would be initiated against anyone found violating the temporary externment orders.
