Nagpur: A major controversy erupted after a video of Senior Police Inspector Baburao Raut went viral on social media, where he was seen telling the family of a missing girl that the police patrol vehicle could not be used for the search because there was “no diesel” in the jeep. The shocking statement triggered widespread outrage among citizens and social media users.
However, Nagpur Today had already highlighted the seriousness of the issue earlier and also exposed how attempts were allegedly being made to control the narrative after the video surfaced. Reports indicated that the concerned person was allegedly asked or pressured to issue a clarification regarding the incident after public anger started growing online.
The viral video sparked strong criticism against the police department, with many questioning how such a response could be given in a sensitive missing person case. Citizens expressed anger over the apparent lack of urgency shown by the police.
Taking serious cognisance of the matter, Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal ordered immediate action. Senior PI Baburao Raut was transferred from the police station soon after the controversy escalated. Traffic Police Inspector Aniruddha Puri has now been appointed as the new in-charge.
Police officials confirmed that the transfer decision was taken immediately after the video gained traction online and public backlash intensified.
The viral video and the alleged clarification pressure episode can be seen below.
