Nagpur: A 32-year-old nurse allegedly died by suicide in Nagpur’s Dhantoli area on August 19, following a prolonged dispute with her boyfriend, who allegedly refused to marry her after being in a relationship with her since 2015. The woman’s family has also alleged that the accused threatened to circulate her private photographs and videos on social media and send them to her relatives.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the woman’s 50-year-old mother, Dhantoli police have registered a case against the accused, identified as Sachin Dahat, for allegedly abetting the woman to take the extreme step.

According to the complaint, the woman and Dahat had been in a relationship for nearly a decade. Dahat was pursuing a PhD in Pune during the period of their relationship.
Marriage promise allegedly followed by refusal
The complainant alleged that Dahat had assured her daughter that he would marry her and, on the basis of the promise, the two entered into a physical relationship.
However, the accused allegedly later refused to marry her, leading to repeated disputes between the two. The woman’s family has alleged that the relationship subsequently became a source of considerable mental and physical distress for her.
The complaint further alleges that Dahat threatened to make private photographs and videos of the woman public on social media and share them with her relatives. The family has alleged that such threats and continued disputes subjected the woman to sustained mental harassment.
Police probe alleged threats and relationship
The woman allegedly died by suicide by hanging on August 19 amid the continuing dispute.
Following the incident, Dhantoli police initiated an investigation and recorded the woman’s family’s allegations. On the basis of the complaint and information gathered during the preliminary inquiry, police registered a case against Dahat for allegedly abetting suicide.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, her relationship with the accused, the alleged threats involving photographs and videos, and other available evidence.
No arrest has been reported so far. Police said further action would be taken after completing the investigation and verifying the allegations.
