Nagpur: Crime continues to rise alarmingly in Nagpur, Maharashtra’s second capital and the home district of the state’s Chief Minister. Incidents of murder, attempted murder, rape, and violent crimes are being reported every few days, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among citizens.
According to NCRB data and local crime records, the city has witnessed a noticeable increase in serious criminal activities in recent months. The repeated incidents have also raised serious questions over the functioning and effectiveness of the Nagpur Police administration.
Once known as one of Maharashtra’s relatively peaceful cities, Nagpur is now increasingly making headlines for violent crimes and sensational murder cases. With soaring summer temperatures, the city’s crime graph also appears to be climbing rapidly. Residents say they now think twice before stepping out late at night.

Despite Nagpur’s political and administrative importance, the frequent murders have sparked concerns regarding deteriorating law and order in the city.
In the latest shocking incident, a brutal murder took place late Sunday night in Hiwri Nagar under the jurisdiction of Nandanvan Police Station, where an elder brother allegedly killed his younger brother following a heated argument.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Govindrao Wakle (39), a resident of Bhim Chowk, Hiwri Nagar. The accused, Bhagwan Wakle (43), is reportedly the victim’s elder brother.
According to police sources, the two brothers got into a heated argument around 11 pm over a minor issue. The argument soon escalated, following which Bhagwan Wakle allegedly attacked Pradeep with an iron rod-like object, striking him on the head with severe force.
Pradeep collapsed on the spot in a pool of blood, creating panic and chaos in the locality.
After receiving information about the incident, Senior Police Inspector Kailash Deshmane and his team from Nandanvan Police Station rushed to the scene. The injured victim was immediately taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police have taken the accused into custody and further investigation is underway. The exact motive behind the murder is yet to be determined.
