Nagpur News : With the air settled down regarding the BJP’s national president’s election, the battle field within the party circles are once again heated up with the ensuing election for the Maharashtra’s state chief.

After the name of Gopinath Munde for the post came out, another name cropped up to join the faceoff. MLA from Nagpur’s south west assembly constituency Devendra Fadnavis has also emerged as a strong contender for the post of BJP’s state unit chief who would be elected in coming week.

Before the recent denying of second term to Nitin Gadkari as BJP’s national chief, it was certain that the existing state unit chief Sudhir Mungantiwar would continue for the post.

However sources informed that Gopinath Munde has recommended that either Fadnavis or Leader of Opposition in state assembly Eknath Khadse be assigned the post. In the changed equation, Khadse seems to be reluctant to take up the post at the cost of his existing rank. Under such circumstances the final contest would remain between Fadnavis, Mungantiwar and Munde who too is apparently unwilling to take the post.

However, Mungantiwar has denied any such development inside the party.

Talking to Nagpur Today Mungantiwar said, “Certain reports in the media are purely based on assumptions. Nothing has been decided as yet. Such reports are only filed by the journos who do not know our party’s mechanism. In our party we all sit down and unanimously decide upon the names. Right now we are busy in district level organisational elections and the matter of electing party’s next state chief would be taken up after February 15.”

On the other hand Devendra Fadnavis too denied such reports and calmly admitted that he would discharge any responsibility that the party would entrust him.
