Nagpur: Health authorities in Nagpur have completed inspections of 374 out of 660 registered hospitals, uncovering several violations related to patient facilities, biomedical waste management and regulatory compliance.
Officials have initiated action against hospitals found violating prescribed norms, including issuing notices and imposing penalties.
73 Hospitals Penalised for Biomedical Waste Violations
During the inspections, 73 hospitals were found without proper biomedical waste management facilities. Authorities have imposed a preliminary fine of ₹5,000 on each hospital and directed them to rectify the deficiencies.

21 Hospitals Found Operating Excess Beds
Inspectors also found 21 hospitals operating more beds than their approved capacity. These hospitals have been fined ₹5,000 and instructed to remove the additional beds.
Parking and Mandatory Information Boards Missing
The inspection also identified 16 hospitals without the required parking arrangements.
Another 16 hospitals were found not displaying mandatory information, including rate charts, helpline numbers, biomedical waste disposal details and information about patients’ rights. Notices have been issued to these hospitals, directing them to address the shortcomings.
The inspection drive is aimed at ensuring that private hospitals comply with prescribed regulations and provide patients with the facilities and information mandated under the rules. Authorities are expected to continue inspections of the remaining registered hospitals.
