Nagpur: The Crime Branch Unit No. 1 of Nagpur City Police has uncovered an illegal operation involving the black-marketing of domestic LPG cylinders in the Hingna Police Station limits. The racket was operating from a godown located in the Khadka farm area, where large quantities of household gas cylinders were illegally stored and refilled to create artificial scarcity.
Acting on reliable confidential information, the police conducted a raid on February 9, 2026, at around 5:10 pm, in the presence of two panch witnesses, at a godown belonging to accused Habib Gulam Sheikh.
During the raid, the police caught three accused—Sunilkumar Hajmanaram Jani (42), Prakash Budharam Khilleri (23), and Shravankumar Rajuram Jani (all residents of Rajasthan, currently staying in Hingna)—red-handed while illegally transferring inflammable gas from domestic cylinders into commercial cylinders using refilling machines. The act posed a serious threat to public safety and was being carried out for financial gain through black-marketing, investigators said.
Seized Materials:
The police seized a total of 179 LPG cylinders (both filled and empty) belonging to HP, Indane, and Bharat Gas, along with refilling motors, weighing scales, regulators, pipes, a vacuum pump, mobile phones, ₹12,700 in cash, and a Bolero pickup vehicle (RJ 18 GC 7609) used for illegal transportation of cylinders. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹11,21,700.
