Nagpur: A 40-year-old bank manager who was critically injured in a serious road accident on Gorewada Road has died, prompting police to intensify the charges against the woman driving the SUV involved in the crash.
The deceased has been identified as Bablu Kulmethe, who succumbed to his injuries two days after the accident. Following his death, Gittikhadan police have added a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against SUV driver Dipali Bhuyan, 32.

The accident occurred late Tuesday night on Adivasi Road, within the jurisdiction of Gittikhadan police station.

According to police, Bhuyan allegedly lost control of her SUV and crashed into Kulmethe’s car while he was getting out of the vehicle.
The impact threw Kulmethe and his two-year-old son Priyansh onto the road. The SUV then allegedly struck 14-year-old Vanshika Kulmethe, Harish Rewatkar, 46, and another person.
The vehicle continued moving and subsequently collided with a motorcycle, an autorickshaw and another two-wheeler before crashing into a tree.
Police awaiting forensic report
Police said Bhuyan’s speech appeared incoherent following the accident, leading to suspicion that she may have been under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
However, the exact substance and level of intoxication have not yet been confirmed. Police are awaiting the forensic analysis of her blood samples.
Investigators are also examining CCTV footage to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine how the crash occurred.
Woman driver in police custody
The accident led to anger among local residents, with a crowd gathering outside the Gittikhadan police station and demanding strict action.
Bhuyan was subsequently arrested and produced before the court. She has been remanded to police custody until September 19.
Meanwhile, other people injured in the crash, including children and Rewatkar, are undergoing treatment.
Police said the investigation is continuing and further action will depend on the evidence collected, including CCTV footage and forensic reports.
