Nagpur girls enter quarters, heartbreak for boys

Nagpur: Dhara Phate, Shreya Gupta and Suryashree Dhondarkar shared 30 points between them as they scored 10 points each to help Nagpur thrash Jalgaon 50- 2 in their last league match of the ongoing 45th Maharashtra State Inter-District Under-13 Basketball Championship organised by Maharashtra State Basketball Association in association with Poona District Basketball Association and NJ Academy, at Shiv Chattrapati Sports Complex.

The quarter wise score read24- 2, 10-0, 16-0, 8-0. With three straight wins from their group, Nagpur district girls, who are the defending champions, stormed into the quarter-finals.

In their last league match, the girls dominated the show like they did in their last two matches. However, this time it was not Shomira Bidaye who was the architect of the previous two wins. This time it was Dhara, Suryashree and Shreya who stole the limelight.

The other scorers forNagpur were Mihika Meshram (8), Swati Wankhede(8), Sharvari Nene (4), Samiksha Chandak (2) and Bidaye (2), Adrija Biswas (2) and Bhargavi Sarve (2). Nagpur will now play quarter finals against winner of Thane or Aurangabad on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, it was heartbreak for the boys team as they went down fighting to Mumbai Central District by just one point. In a closely fought battle, Mumbai Central defeated Nagpur 40-39.

Conceding a seven point lead in the first quarter cost Nagpur as they failed to bounce back in there maining three quarters despite giving tough fight.

The quarter wise score was 13- 6, 9-8, 8-17, 10-8. KaranShah15wasthetopscorer for Mumbai while for Nagpur, Taran Kakkad(18),Vedant Tumne (8), Aryan Dhume (4), Sarthak Duldhule (2), Atharva Chure (2), Ayush Gorle (2) tried hard.
