Nagpur: The Crime Branch has unearthed a suspected two-wheeler theft network operating in Nagpur with the arrest of two persons and the recovery of 11 motorcycle engines and a petrol tank from a garage.

The action was taken by Crime Branch Unit-6 while investigating a vehicle theft case registered with Kalamna police. Police have identified a third accused, identified as Hrithik, who is currently absconding.

The investigation gained momentum after Unit-6 personnel received information during patrolling that a suspect wanted in connection with vehicle thefts was moving around the Kapil Nagar police station area.

Acting on the information, the Crime Branch detained Mayur Borkar, 22. During questioning, police said, Mayur admitted to his alleged involvement in vehicle thefts.

Investigators subsequently learnt that Mayur and his associate Hrithik allegedly used to steal two-wheelers from different parts of the city. The stolen motorcycles were then allegedly dismantled and their components sold to another associate operating a garage.

Based on the information obtained during the investigation, the Crime Branch raided the garage and recovered 11 motorcycle engines and one petrol tank.

Police subsequently arrested Anand Agrawal, 38, of Shantinagar, allegedly in connection with the disposal of the stolen vehicle parts.

Both arrested accused were handed over to Kalamna police for further legal proceedings.

Police probe wider network

Investigators are now trying to establish the full extent of the suspected theft network, including the police station areas from where the motorcycles were stolen and the number of stolen vehicles allegedly dismantled and sold as spare parts.

Police are also attempting to trace the absconding accused Hrithik and determine his role in the alleged theft and disposal of the vehicles.

The recovery of 11 engines has prompted investigators to examine whether the gang was involved in a larger network of motorcycle thefts and illegal disposal of vehicle components across Nagpur.
