
Nagpur: A 37-year-old history-sheeter allegedly launched a brutal knife attack on his wife following a dispute over her character in the Itwari vegetable market area under the jurisdiction of Tehsil police late Friday night.
The accused, identified as Ankush Pintu Bagdi, allegedly attacked his wife Shruti with a knife, inflicting multiple wounds on her neck and other parts of the body. She was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where she is undergoing treatment. The accused fled the scene after the attack and remains absconding.
The incident took place around 1.45 am on October 2, when an argument reportedly broke out between Ankush and Shruti over his suspicion about her character. According to police, Ankush had allegedly assaulted his wife on earlier occasions as well over the same issue.
The argument reportedly escalated late Friday night, following which Ankush allegedly picked up a knife and attacked Shruti repeatedly. Police said the accused inflicted around 30 to 40 blows on different parts of her body, including her neck.
The attack allegedly took place in the presence of the couple’s minor son and daughter, leaving the children traumatised. After leaving his seriously injured wife at the spot, Ankush reportedly fled.
The woman’s minor son subsequently called his maternal grandfather, Dhruv Upadhyay, and informed him about the incident. Family members rushed to the spot, while Tehsil police were also alerted.
Police personnel reached the scene and shifted Shruti to GMCH for medical treatment. Her condition and the nature of her injuries are being monitored by doctors.
21 cases registered against accused
According to police, Ankush Bagdi has a criminal record and around 21 cases have been registered against him in connection with offences including robbery, assault and extortion.
Tehsil police have registered a case of attempt to murder against the accused and launched a search operation to trace him. Police teams are conducting raids at his suspected hideouts and are also gathering details about the circumstances leading to the attack.
The investigation is underway.
