Nagpur: The Nagpur Crime Branch has launched a major crackdown on criminal activities and illegal businesses in the city. On September 8 and 9, various Crime Branch teams carried out 18 operations in different parts of the city, taking action against 21 accused and wanted accused. Property worth more than ₹30.85 lakh was seized during these operations.
The operations were conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Deepak Agrawal. The targets included banned nylon kite string, gambling, illicit liquor, illegal weapons, vehicle theft, parts of stolen vehicles and accused wanted in burglary cases.
Acting on confidential information in the Yashodhara Nagar area, the Social Security Team and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) seized 180 pieces of banned Mono Kite nylon string. The string was valued at approximately ₹5.40 lakh. Police also seized an e-rickshaw worth ₹1.20 lakh, a Suzuki moped worth ₹75,000 and a mobile phone, taking the total value of the seized property to ₹7.45 lakh. Action was taken against one accused in the case, while Faizan Ansari was identified as a wanted accused.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Vehicle Theft Team took action in the Kapil Nagar area and seized 30 to 40 engines of various vehicles, along with other spare parts. Police said the seized material was worth approximately ₹30 lakh. A truck bearing registration number MH-40-BG-4937 was also taken into custody.
Police also solved a case involving the theft of a passenger bus in the Beltarodi area. The Anti-Vehicle Theft Team detained two accused and seized a Tata mini-bus. In the Gittikhadan area, Unit 6 of the Crime Branch arrested a wanted accused in a burglary case and seized silver ornaments worth approximately ₹16,000 from his possession.
As part of the anti-gambling drive, raids were conducted at five locations in Ranapratap Nagar, Sakkardara, Sadar, Hudkeshwar and Nandanvan. Six people were booked in these operations, and cash and gambling-related material were seized. In addition, five operations were conducted against the sale of illicit liquor in Sakkardara, Gittikhadan, Khaparkheda, Kapil Nagar and other areas.
Two accused carrying illegal weapons were arrested in the Wadi and Imamwada areas. Iron knives were seized from their possession. Two preventive actions were also taken in the Lakadganj area under Section 122(a) of the Maharashtra Police Act based on suspicious movements.
The Crime Branch’s sustained operations indicate that police are tightening their grip on illegal businesses and criminal activities in the city. Police said action against crime and unlawful businesses would be intensified in the coming days.
