Nagpur: Continuing its crackdown on the sale of banned tobacco products and illegal hookah-related materials, Nagpur Police conducted a late-night raid on a paan shop in the Sakkardara police station area, seizing hookah equipment, flavoured tobacco products, cigarettes, and other prohibited items.
The operation was carried out by the Special Escort Team of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil. The team, led by API Bhagwan Koli, was on patrol in the Sakkardara area when they noticed suspicious activity at Taj Paan Palace in the Bada Tajbagh locality at around 3 a.m.
According to police, the shop owner, Farukh Sheikh Moinuddin, along with a few others, fled the scene after noticing the police team. However, shop employee Mohsin Sheikh Mehmood was apprehended during the raid.
During the search, police seized two hookah pots, 23 hookah pipes, around 80 packets of flavoured hookah products and cigarettes of different brands, an electric machine used for preparing “kharra,” and banned tobacco products.
A case has been registered against both the absconding shop owner and the detained employee at Sakkardara Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
Police are now probing the source of the banned tobacco products and hookah materials and are attempting to identify others involved in the illegal supply network.
