With nearly three decades of policing experience, the Commissioner said a planned and coordinated approach would be adopted to improve law and order and enhance the overall safety of Nagpur.

The increasing use of drugs among youngsters is a serious concern, the Police Commissioner said.

He stressed the need for strict action against major drug traffickers and peddlers involved in supplying narcotics. According to him, controlling crime requires more than just arrests and police action.

Counselling of offenders and creating greater public awareness about the dangers of drug abuse will also be important components of the police strategy, he said.

12 Nirbhaya Teams for Women’s Safety

Women’s safety will remain another major priority for the Nagpur Police.

The Commissioner said efforts would be made to increase awareness among women regarding personal safety while ensuring a prompt police response to their complaints.

As part of the initiative, 12 Nirbhaya teams have been formed in Nagpur. Beat marshals are also being deployed round the clock to improve police presence and response in the city.

Planning for 9,500 Police Personnel

Nangre Patil highlighted the importance of effectively managing the available police manpower in view of Nagpur’s population and growing requirements.

He said the city has approximately 9,500 police personnel, and there is a need to maintain a proper balance between manpower at police stations, infrastructure requirements and recruitment.

The Commissioner also acknowledged concerns over serious crimes such as murder and attempted murder and said these offences require focused attention.

Traffic, Parking and Hawker Policy

Traffic management will also be a key focus of the new roadmap. The police administration plans to work towards improving traffic flow and addressing parking-related problems in the city.

Effective implementation of the hawker policy will also be important to ensure smoother movement of vehicles and pedestrians in congested areas.

Right to Protest, But Law Cannot Be Taken Into Hands

Speaking about protests and demonstrations, Nangre Patil said everyone has the democratic right to protest.

However, he stressed that no one should take the law into their own hands in the name of a protest. Police permission for demonstrations is granted as per established rules and regulations, he said.

Security Plans for Dussehra, Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Day and Navratri

With Dussehra, Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Day and Navratri approaching, the Nagpur Police have begun planning security arrangements for the major events.

The Commissioner said adequate deployment and security planning were being undertaken to maintain peace and ensure the safety of citizens during the festive period.

He added that the police would continue to focus on every aspect of security and law and order to make Nagpur a safer city.
