Nagpur: A 56-year-old Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (ASI), Ravindra Mahadeorao Kokande, died suddenly after returning home from Ganesh Visarjan bandobast duty in Nagpur. He complained of chest discomfort and was taken to multiple hospitals, but doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Kokande was posted at the Nagpur City Police Headquarters and had been deployed in the Panchpaoli police station area for Ganesh Visarjan security arrangements.

After completing his duty at around 1:30 am on September 27, Kokande returned to his home in Kapil Nagar. After having dinner, he went to sleep. At around 3:30 am, he suddenly experienced chest discomfort and informed his son, Rishabh.
His family immediately took him to Hope Hospital at Teka Naka. He was subsequently shifted to Platina Hospital in Dhantoli and later to the Medical Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead at around 11:27 am during treatment.
News of Kokande’s death sent shockwaves through the Nagpur Police Department. Colleagues remembered him as a friendly and dedicated police personnel.
Kapil Nagar Police registered an accidental death case based on medical information and initiated further investigation.
Kokande is survived by his wife Sheela Kokande and two sons, Rishabh and Rohit. Senior police officials and colleagues paid their respects to him. He was given a ceremonial farewell with a gun salute before his last rites were performed at Kapil Nagar crematorium.
