Nagpur: The Social Security Squad has arrested a 38-year-old man with 11 grams of mephedrone, commonly known as MD, during an anti-drug operation in the Ajni area. Police seized MD, a mobile phone and cash worth a total of ₹44,980 from the accused.
According to police, the action was carried out on the night of September 30 on a public road leading from Shatabdi Square towards Omkar Nagar, within the Ajni police station limits. The accused was identified as Abdul Shiraz Abdul Gaffar, 38, who was detained by the Social Security Squad.
Police said Abdul is originally from Cuttack district in Odisha and is currently residing in the Kashinagar area of Nagpur.
During the operation, police allegedly recovered 11 grams of MD valued at around ₹33,480, a mobile phone worth ₹10,000 and ₹1,500 in cash. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹44,980.
According to police, Abdul was previously booked under the NDPS Act at Bhadravati Police Station in Chandrapur district. During the earlier case, the names Rahul and Devil reportedly surfaced, with both allegedly absconding.
Police are now investigating the possible Chandrapur connection and are trying to determine the source of the MD seized in Ajni and whether a wider supply network is involved.
An offence under the NDPS Act has been registered at Ajni Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
