
Nagpur: The Nagpur Police have intensified their crackdown on the illegal sale and transportation of banned nylon manja. In a joint operation, the Social Security Wing and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) seized 180 pieces of banned Mono Kite nylon manja from the Ekta Nagar area under Yashodhara Nagar Police Station limits.
Police arrested 27-year-old Mohd Shahid Ansari in connection with the case, while another accused, identified as Faizan Ansari, is reportedly absconding.
According to police, the team received information about the illegal sale and transportation of banned nylon manja in the Ekta Nagar area. Acting on the tip-off, police conducted a search in the presence of panch witnesses and staff and detained Shahid Ansari.
Nylon Manja Worth ₹5.40 Lakh Seized
During the search, police allegedly recovered 180 pieces of Mono Kite nylon manja, valued at approximately ₹5.40 lakh. Police suspect that the banned manja was being illegally stored and transported for sale.
Apart from the nylon manja, the team also seized an e-rickshaw worth ₹1.20 lakh, a moped valued at ₹75,000 and a Realme mobile phone.
The total value of the property seized in the operation has been estimated at approximately ₹7.45 lakh.
Search for Second Accused Underway
Police have named Faizan Ansari as a wanted accused in the case and launched a search to trace him.
A case has been registered at Yashodhara Nagar Police Station under relevant provisions, including the Environment (Protection) Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the banned nylon manja and identify others potentially involved in its illegal trade.
The police have indicated that enforcement against the sale, storage and transportation of banned nylon manja will continue across Nagpur.
