Patna: Suspended Bharatiya Janata Party Leader Manoj Baitha surrendered before Bihar Police on Wednesday. Baitha is accused of mowing down nine children while driving an SUV in an inebriated state in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.

Baitha has been shifted to Patna Medical College & Hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered during the accident.

At least nine children were killed and about 20 were injured when the speeding vehicle lost control and ploughed through them outside a government school building on the outskirts of Muzaffarpur on February 24.

The opposition parties on Tuesday created ruckus in the Bihar Assembly as it protested against the Nitish Kumar government and demanded the arrest of Baitha.

Baitha, a district level worker of Sitamarhi, was suspended from the primary membership of the party for a period of six years on Monday.

The police registered an FIR against Baitha on the complaint of a local who lost his granddaughter in the incident.
