City’s ace politician, member of parliament and staunch Gandhian Vilas Muttemwar marked the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Variety Square here. Gandhi Jayanti, also observed as Jagtik Ahimsa Diwas (Non-Violence Day) worldwide, saw Muttemwar gathered at Variety Square along with large number of his supporters and garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi there.

Like every year, the event was organized early in the morning at 8.30 am.

On the occasion, Muttemwar appealed to the citizens to imbibe on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi in their routine lives. “That will be a true tribute to Gandhi if all Nagpurians follow his ideology in letter and spirit and contribute towards maintaining peace of the city. Collective efforts can surely serve the purpose of bringing the core essence of non-violence to the social fabric of Nagpur,” Muttemwar told Nagpur Today.

Meanwhile, a large number of people also arrived at Variety Square to mark Jagtik Ahimsa Diwas – a venture promoted by Muttemwar for the past many years.
