Nagpur: A suspended traffic constable in Nagpur Pravin Paighan who along with his accomplice Omprakash Rohankar was rounded up by Washim police for his alleged involvement in a murder case had been earlier booked for rape. He was attached to MIDC traffic wing in the city.
Pravin was arrested for masterminding the murder of his relative, 50-year-old Baban Paighan, around a week ago. Baban, a contractor and former deputy sarpanch of Anjankheda, was found murdered at Ghod Babhul near Anjankheda. Washim police, after registering the case, had been working out the details before zeroing in on Pravin. Washim police have also arrested Deepak Kamble in the case. The trio has been remanded to police custody till June 9.
It’s learnt that Pravin wanted to settle a score with Baban for compelling him to marry the woman who had registered the rape case against him some years ago. Though the case was settled after marriage, Pravin had carried a grudge against Baban. He visited Washim on his weekly off to eliminate Baban. Hiring a car from the city, Pravin reached Washim where he killed Baban with the help of his two accomplices.
Washim police had traced the registration number of the vehicle which Pravin had hired from its owner Mahesh Madavi from Wanadongri. Scanning of CCTV footage on Nagpur-Wardha road by Washim police led to the detection of the Pravin’s vehicle’s number. Apart from seizing the car used in the murder, police rounded up its driver Rohankar.
After Washim police informed their Nagpur counterparts, traffic PI Umesh Besarkar under DCP Ravindrasing Pardeshi laid a trap to nab Pravin before he was handed over.
