MSEDCL wireman electrocuted during transformer replacement work in Hingna

Nagpur: A tragic workplace accident claimed the life of a Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) employee after he suffered a fatal electric shock while carrying out transformer replacement work in Nagpur’s Hingna area.

The deceased has been identified as Ajay Arvind Hadge (31), a wireman posted with MSEDCL’s Hingna R-2 BC Panchvati division. The incident occurred near an electricity pole located in a farm behind Okhali Ashram School under the jurisdiction of Hingna Police Station.

According to police, Hadge was on regular duty on the morning of June 4 and was engaged in replacing a transformer along with other employees. During the operation, he allegedly came into contact with a live electrical current and suffered a severe electric shock. The impact caused him to collapse unconscious at the site.

His colleagues immediately rushed him to the Hingna Rural Hospital for emergency treatment. Given the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to Shalinitai Meghe Hospital. However, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment and was declared dead by doctors.

Based on a complaint lodged by Akshay Vijay Jhanjhad, Hingna Police have registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Police officials said they are examining the circumstances that led to the electrocution and whether all prescribed safety protocols were followed during the transformer replacement work. Investigators are also expected to review workplace safety measures and operational procedures at the site.

The untimely death of the young wireman has cast a shadow over the electricity department, with colleagues and employees expressing grief over the loss of a co-worker who died while performing his duties.

Further investigation is underway.
