Mother-son duo killed, 3 other siblings injured in freak car accident on Wardha Road

Nagpur: A mother-son duo was killed and three other siblings were injured seriously when the car they were travelling in met with a freak accident near Jamtha on Nagpur-Wardha Road on Sunday evening. The car in which the family of five was travelling was first hit by a tanker and then by a travel bus causing deaths of mother-son duo and injuries to 3 other siblings. The driver of the travel bus has been arrested while the tanker driver is being hunted by cops.

The deceased have been identified as Abhijit Chandrakant Joshi (32) and Asha Chandrakant Joshi (60). The injured are Milind Joshi, Srushti Joshi and Gargi Joshi.

According to police, the Joshi family was going to Wardha from Nagpur in their Hyundai Evan car (MH-31/EA8834) around 5 pm on Sunday. As the family was passing through Jamtha Shivar, a tanker truck, being driven recklessly by an unidentified driver, hit their car from behind with forceful impact. As a result, the car jumped the road divider and came on the other side of the road. At the same time, the travel bus (MH-30/P 9995), coming from Butibori and going to Nagpur, crashed on the car of Joshis. The double impact left Abhijit, his mother Asha, and siblings Milind, Srushti and Gargi injured seriously. However, Abhijit and Asha died on the spot even before medical help could be rendered to them. Milind, Srushti and Gargi were rushed to a hospital by nearby people.

After the ghastly accident, the tanker truck driver fled the spot while the travel bus driver Mohd Ayfaz Abdul Rahim (53), resident of Nirala Society, Tajbagh, has been arrested.

Hingna ASI Butle, based on the complaint lodged by Nitin Purshottam Kulkarni (45) of Sahakar Nagar, Bhandara and a relative of Joshi family, has registered a case under Sections 279, 338, 304(A) of the IPC read with Sub-section 184 of Motor Vehicles Act. The unidentified driver of tanker truck is being searched.
