Nagpur: The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities in the State CH. Vidyasagar Rao appointed Dr Ashish Motiram Paturkar today as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, (MAFSU) Nagpur.

Dr Ashish Paturkar is presently serving as Associate Dean and Head of Department, Microbiology Pathology, Parasitology, Veterinary Public Health and Livestock Products Technology at the Bombay Veterinary College, Parel, Mumbai. He has been appointed for a term of five years. He succeeds Prof Aditya Kumar Misra whose term ended on 7 September 2017.

Dr Ashish Paturkar has obtained his MVSc and PhD from Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapith, Dapoli. He has vast experience in the field of teaching and research.

The Governor had constituted a Search Committee under the chairmanship of Justice B Sudershan Reddy, retired Former Judge of Supreme Court of India to recommend to him a panel of names suitable for appointment of Vice- Chancellor of the University (MAFSU). Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Director- General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and Vikas Deshmukh, Secretary to Government (ADF) Agriculture and ADF Department were other members of the Committee.
