Nagpur: Nagpur Metro Phase-II has achieved a key construction milestone with the completion of its first track crossover near Lekha Nagar station on Reach 2A.
The crossover connects the two parallel Metro tracks and will allow trains to switch from one track to another, providing greater operational flexibility when required. The structure was recently cast on the Kamptee stretch between Automotive Square and Kanhan.
The connecting curve has a 300-metre radius, designed to enable gradual and safe movement of Metro trains between the tracks. Officials said crossover construction requires high precision, as even minor variations in track geometry or alignment can affect train safety and smooth operation.

The work was carried out at night according to a planned schedule, with teams from MahaMetro, the General Consultant and the track contractor working together.
Phase-II is expected to have 40 turnouts on its elevated main-line sections, matching the number installed during Phase-I. Two turnouts together form a crossover between running lines.
As construction progresses, track laying and other systems works will gather pace. Before the new corridors can begin trial runs and eventually be commissioned, signalling, traction, telecommunications and other Metro systems will also have to be installed and integrated.
