The BBC produced documentary on ‘Nirbhaya’ that has been banned in India will now have a world wide premier on 9th March. City University of New York will host the show in partnership jointly with NGO ‘Global Voices, Global partnersip’ and Plan International, an organization working for Child development.

Hollywood superstar and Oscar winner Meryl Streep and well known Indian Actor Freida Pinto – of Slum Dog Millionaire fame- will also attend the premier to show solidarity with the BBC producer of the film called ‘Daughter of India’ Leslie Udwin.

On hearing about the Delhi girl’s shocking rape and attempted murder and seeing the subsequent unrest among Indian youth I felt compelled to do something about it and forsaking my family I came to India for two years to make this film, says Udwin.

Expressing dismay about the film being banned in India she says her attempt was to spread awareness so such attacks are prevented in the future.

Meryl Streep is brand ambassador for “Because I am a Girl” initiative of Plan International.
