Nagpur: Thousands of women under the auspices of Swamini Zilla Darubandi Abhiyan, Yavatmal, have hit the streets and marching towards Nagpur which is hosting the Winter Session of Maharashtra Legislature. The spirited women, who have since long been demanding total prohibition in Yavatmal District, would reach Nagpur on December 9 (Wednesday) to corner the Government.
The morcha of women embarked on December 4 from Kalamb. The women said that they had and have been witnessing the horrible effects of consumption of liquor in smaller villages to big towns. Dozens and dozens of families have been ruined and living a life in penury. However, all their efforts to force the Chief Minister to declare Yavatmal District a dry district have failed. Hence the massive morcha has been planned to wake up the Government.
The Swamini Zilla Darubandi Abhiyan, Yavatmal, during their morcha in Nagpur, have decided to highlight other burning issues confronting the people such as farmers’ suicides, growing unemployment, problems of Adivasis, distressing agriculture situation, lack of industries apart from the flood of liquor that has proved as bane for many families.
