Nagpur: Panic gripped the busy Gandhibagh area of Nagpur on Friday morning after a massive fire broke out at a clothing store located in the basement near Nanga Putla Chowk. The incident occurred around 7 am and quickly engulfed the area in thick smoke.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread rapidly and soon reached sacks of footwear and bundles of merchandise kept outside the shop. Huge flames and dense smoke created chaos in the market area, leaving traders and local residents frightened. Citizens immediately alerted the fire department.
Soon after receiving information, firefighters from the Ganjipeth Fire Department rushed to the spot and launched an intense firefighting operation. After strenuous efforts, the fire brigade managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing a major disaster.
Notably, the showroom located above the shop and the nearby Union Bank of India ATM narrowly escaped damage due to the timely action of the fire personnel. Officials said the situation could have turned far more serious had the fire not been controlled in time.
Preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the fire, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed.
Following the incident, panic and confusion prevailed in the area for several hours. Meanwhile, Tehsil Police visited the spot and initiated an investigation. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
