Man booked for abetting wife’s suicide over dowry money

Nagpur: A 36-year old man has been booked by MIDC police on the charges of torturing his wife for dowry money and forcing her to commit suicide.

A resident of Flat No. 301, Third Floor, Rai Town, Hingna Road, Malavika Nirmal Chaterjee (31), had committed suicide at her residence by hanging to ceiling fan with the help of odhni on February 13, 2018. At the time the MIDC cops had registered a case of accidental death and launched a probe.

During the investigations, it came to the fore that the accused Nirmal Ranjit Chaterjee (36), tormented Malavika mentally and physically for bringing dowry money from her parents. Malavika was subjected to torture between December 7, 2015 and February 13, 2018. Fed up with the harassment, Malavika ended her life by hanging to the ceiling fan at her residence around 8.30 am on February 13, 2018.

Based on the probe and a complaint lodged by Trupti Prakash Bhattacharya (36), native of Vaikunthpur, Chhattisgarh, MIDC API Gorve booked the accused Nirmal Ranjit Chaterjee under Sections 306, 304(B) of the IPC read with Sections 3, 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act. Further probe is underway.
