Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested three persons allegedly involved in the sensational murder of hardcore criminal Ganesh Baijulal Gaur and launched a hunt to nab other accused. Ganesh Gaur, resident of Bajeria, was done to death in full public view by five or more car borne assailants after a filmy style hot chase. The incident had occurred opposite Gandhi Sagar Bal Udyan on Sunday night. However, a few CCTV cameras installed at nearby spots caught every action of attackers from different angles. The scanning of footage of CCTVs ultimately helped the cops identify the assailants and arrest three of them. Police had registered an offence under Sections 147, 148, 149, 302, 34 of the IPC in this connection. In another interesting angle, police are also probing role of a girl in the audacious murder.

According to reports and sources, one of the arrested accused Istakar Ahmed alias Sheru (26), the mastermind, runs a wholesale vegetable business in Cotton Market. Sheru is a terror of sorts in the market. The deceased Ganesh Gaur had also a vegetable shop just nearby Sheru’s shop. However, Ganesh was a step ahead of Sheru in terms of terror due to his criminal mindset. In fact, 3-4 offences of serious crime have been registered against Ganesh Gaur in 3-4 police stations. The second arrested accused Shubham Chirodkar (18) works in Sheru’s shop and the third one Sushil Dekate is friend of Sheru. Sushil is also a history-sheeter with 3-4 offences against his name.

Though the deceased Ganesh Gaur and Sheru were running vegetable business in the proximity of Cotton Market, both had an intense rivalry owing to Ganesh’s terror tactics. The old rivalry had, in fact, had triggered serious brawls between them several times and as a result, Ganesh had doled out life threats to accused Sheru. Scared of life threats by criminal minded Ganesh, Sheru himself was planning to eliminate the terror and the threat as well, said the reports and sources. And the plan was executed with a deadly effect.

On Sunday at around 8.45 pm, Ganesh Gaur had gone to a petrol pump in front of Gandhi Sagar Bal Udyan to fill up fuel in his motorcycle. At the same time, the car-borne three accused and their accomplices accosted Ganesh. They whipped out sharp-edged knives and moved menacingly towards Ganesh. However, Ganesh spotted the assailants within no time and tried to run away from the spot. But in a hurry, he hit his bike to a car coming from opposite direction. Later, he started running but was caught by the alleged assailants.  Two people disembarked from the car and rained stab blows on him. They also smashed his head and face with a stone leading to his death on the spot. However, all the actions of the assailants were caught in the CCTV cameras installed at the nearby different spots from various angles.

The investigating police officials scanned the footages of CCTVs which led to identification of accused. Once identified, the Ganeshpeth cops launched a hunt to nab them and soon tasted the success. They got a tip off on Sunday night itself that the key accused Istakar Ahmed alias Sheru and Shubham Chirodkar were hiding in Kamptee and were planning a great escape from there. Within hours, both were in custody of police who found them heavily under the influence of liquor.

Meanwhile, on Monday morning, top police officials, including DCP Nirmala Devi, started visiting Ganeshpeth Police Station to oversee and guide the investigation. After getting detailed information from Ganeshpeth Police Inspector Sudhir Nandanwar, the DCP ordered formation of two DB squads to nab the remaining accused. Crime Branch sleuths also visited the police station to provide additional inputs to help the probe. The DB squads subsequently nabbed the third accused Sushil Dekate whose name was probably divulged by Sheru and Shubham.

When Nagpur Today contacted the Police Inspector Sudhir Nandanwar for details in the murder, he confirmed the arrest of three accused and the search to nab remaining assailants. The PI further said that the arrested accused confessed the crime but the key accused Sheru was not cooperating and misleading the probe over the identification of car and trying to save other unidentified accused.

Meanwhile, during the course of investigation, police stumbled upon a new angle in the murder case. According to sources, a young girl was accompanying the deceased Ganesh Gaur when he had gone to the petrol pump to fill up fuel in his motorcycle. At the time of deadly assault on Ganesh, she was probably ‘enjoying Paani Puri’ at a nearby roadside eatery vendor. The girl apparently witnessed the murder from closed distance and could be of immense help to police in nailing the accused. However, there is another angle to the presence of the girl at the spot. Suspicion is hovering over the girl’s activity. Had she tipped off about the movement of Ganesh as the assailants had reached the spot in the nick of time and caught Ganesh by surprise. Moreover, according to sources, the girl and Ganesh were planning to go to Futala Lake at that hour of Sunday night.

The Police Inspector Sudhir Nandanwar told Nagpur Today that the police are investigating the matter from all angles and were confident in cracking the murder at the earliest. The girl could possibly reveal more than enough in the case. Hence the cops are searching the girl and would try to make her a key witness, said Nandanwar.
