The large-scale voter list verification drive will begin from May 30 and continue till October 14.
The SIR exercise aims to clean and update electoral rolls by identifying duplicate, bogus, deceased, and ineligible voters before upcoming elections.

Apart from Maharashtra, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase 3 will also be conducted in:
- Delhi

House-to-House Verification Across Maharashtra
According to the ECI schedule, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification between May 30 and October 14, 2026.
Key highlights of the SIR drive include:
- 3.94 lakh BLOs deployed nationwide
- 36.73 crore electors to be covered
- 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties to assist
The draft electoral rolls will be published between July 5 and October 21.
Election Commission Appeals for Transparency in SIR Process
The Election Commission described SIR as a participative and transparent exercise involving voters, election officials, and political parties.
The poll body has urged political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents at every polling booth to ensure transparency and active participation during the revision process.
According to the EC, the first two phases of SIR conducted in 13 states and Union Territories covered nearly 59 crore voters, with participation from over 6.3 lakh BLOs and 9.2 lakh BLAs.
Why the SIR Exercise Was Started
The Special Intensive Revision campaign was first launched in Bihar last year following concerns over:
- Duplicate voter entries
- Bogus voters
- Names of deceased persons in electoral rolls
- Ineligible entries and illegal immigrants
The Election Commission said the objective is to maintain accurate and updated voter lists across India.
