Nagpur: The Crime Reporter of Lokmat Samachar Jagdish Joshi has been booked by Tehsil police on the charges of molesting a woman and publishing a defamatory report against her.
According to police, on October 5, a man had attacked the two children of the woman in Geetanagar and had tried to kill them by slashing their throats by a razor blade. Subsequently, the two kids were admitted to Mayo Hospital. Around 8.30 pm on the same day, the woman was standing in front of Casualty Department of the hospital when the accused Crime Reporter Jagdish Joshi reached there and started asking obnoxious questions to her. The accused also made sexual taunts and questioned her character.
The next day the Crime Reporter published an utterly irresponsible and baseless report in Lokmat Samachar aimed at defaming the woman. The report left the woman stunned as the contents were not only baseless but defamatory in nature. The shocked woman, already under duress following murderous attack on her two children, registered a case with Tehsil Police Station against the Crime Reporter of Lokmat Samachar Jagdish Joshi in this regard.
Acting on the complaint, API P P Nagtilak has booked the accused under Sections 354(A)(4), 509 of the IPC and launched an in-depth investigation into the matter.
On the other hand, Jagdish Joshi has refuted the charges leveled by the woman and tried to come clean on the matter. According to Joshi’s version published in Lokmat Samachar and Lokmat, he says that he neither knew the woman nor ever met her. “It is true I had gone to Mayo Hospital along with other reporters for reporting another matter but did not know the woman was present there. So the question of meeting her does not arise. I am being framed,” Joshi claimed in the published version and demanded an enquiry by higher police officials.
