Nagpur: In a commendable act, the State Excise Department personnel of the city seized a cash-van on Saturday, which was engaged in illegal transportation of spurious foreign liquor over the years, in which the fearless father and son were involved. Both the accused kept on causing deception to the police during transit, under the pretext of operating cash-van.
On the basis of secret information received, the State Excise Department personnel came into action to nab the duo, father and son, involved over several years in illegally transporting spurious foreign liquor through cash-van, throwing dust into eyes of police.
Accordingly a plan was worked out, a siege was laid and the cash-van No. MH 40/ Y 879 was stopped on Saturday near Kandri Naka of Mansar situated on Jabalpur road. When checked, a huge stock of spurious foreign liquor was seized, and the accused father and son, who had been engaged in this illegal business, were arrested and the van confiscated. The spurious liquor contained 960 bottles of spurious lables of branded names like Mac Dowell No 1 and Officers’ Choice.
The total seizure made by the department including the cost of van comes to Rs 7 lakh.
