Nagpur: Corporate investments are very much in, as far as Nagpur’s ambitious Mihan project goes. However how far the trend will lead Nagpur on the road of development is yet to be seem. After Baba Ramdev’s promoted Patanjali is set to its facility in Mihan, here comes another big entrant. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Sunday that Twinstar company, which is a joint venture between local Vedanta Group and Korean company LG, will set up an electronics product manufacturing facility in Mihan investing Rs16,000 crore and creating large number of jobs.

Interestingly similar announcements was recently made by IT giant HCL in which the company claims to hire 2000 professionals in next 2 years. However it later turned out that that it was ploy to sell their training programs with the lure of job.

However with Twinstar Company coming in, job aspirants are hopeful of change.

“The company has already purchased land in Mihan and has applied to state and central governments for clearances. It will be the biggest investment in Mihan,” he told the gathering after bhoomipuja of new Khapri railway overbridge (RoB).

“It will manufacture electronic hardware here. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between state government and company officials in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The company is starting its facility under a central government scheme. It has already purchased land and has submitted the allotment letter to central government for availing the facilities under the scheme,” he said.

Officials of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), however, said that none of the three companies—Vedanta, LG, Twinstar— have purchased land in Mihan.

Praising union transport minister Nitin Gadkari, the CM said that previously, the state only had 6,000km length of national highways but Gadkari had started work on 22,000km length of national highways. “This will transform the entire state and create lot of jobs,” he added.

In his address, Gadkari promised that while the completion period of the new Khapri RoB was 24 months as per the contract, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would complete it in 12 months. “It has built a bridge on Mumbai-Goa in 165 days. So, it can do the job expeditiously here too,” said the minister.

The minister also announced that NHAI had provided Rs20 crore to Mahametro for construction of the Manish Nagar RoB. “As per the earlier design, Mahametro was required to acquire some houses. However, to avoid this, we asked L&T’s experts to redesign the RoB. Now, there is no requirement for acquisition,” he added.

Gadkari further said that a cement road connecting Chinchbhuvan to Manish Nagar would be constructed so that people of south Nagpur can directly go to Mihan and Butibori.

Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule in his address said that the demand for new Khapri RoB was pending since last 20 years. NHAI officials DO Tawde and M Chandrashekhar also expressed their views.
