Bringing all speculations to rest, former IPS officer and ex-AAP leader Kiran Bedi finally embarked BJP’s boat on Thursday. She took the party’s membership in presence of party president Amit Shah. With this development, it has now become evident that Bedi will now contest Delhi assembly elections.

Conveying her regards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bedi said, “I’m very thankful to PM Modi, I’m here today due to his inspirational leadership.” She said that she never worked for position or money. “I’ve always looked at what I can contribute towards the country,” she added.

She also said, “When I was overlooked for the police commissioner, I left because the work that I was given wasn’t challenging enough. The last 40 years of my life have been dedicated to serving the public and the country.”

On the occasion Amit Shah said, “I welcome Kiran Bedi on behalf of the party. This will strengthen the Delhi BJP unit and will help fulfill the hopes of the people in the coming elections.”

He said that Bedi’s entry into BJP will strengthen the party in Delhi and she will contest Assembly polls.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely said, “We are happy that Kiran Bedi decided to join the BJP. People are familiar with her name not just in Delhi but across India. She has an image of credibility and she has been seen as a crusader, both while she was serving and after retirement.”

When asked about the Chief Ministerial candidate for Delhi elections, Shah said that parliamentary board will decide who’ll be chief minister.

Meanwhile senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai ‏also tweeted on this development through his hashtag @sardesairajdeep – Kiran Bedi in BJP could be a master stroke. Also, an admission that the BJP lacked a credible ‘face’ for Delhi.
