Nagpur: Ace athlete Nagraj Khursane, fencer Radha Deshmukh, swimming coach Sandeep Khobragade and Maharashtra Volleyball Association president Vijay Dangre were the recipients of the 2014-15 district sports awards which were distributed by guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule during the Republic Day celebrations at KP ground on Monday.
National athlete Nagraj Khursane displayed outstanding performance in cross country, 5000m, 3,000 m races at national-level. Radha Deshmukh has represented Maharashtra in several fencing competitions. Swimming coach Sandeep Khobragade has produced several state and national swimmers.
Dangre, who is also the vice-president of Volleyball Federation of India (VFI), got the award for his contribution in the field of volleyball . Maharashtra State Sports Directorate, Pune and District Sports Office, Nagpur honour the best sportspersons and best organizer on January 26 every year. The award carries Rs 10,000 cash, certificate and a memento.
