Nagpur: Nagpur Police arrested five men allegedly preparing to commit a dacoity in Kamptee before they could execute their plan. Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch Unit-5 seized sharp weapons, chilli powder, rope, mobile phones, and three two-wheelers collectively valued at Rs 4.82 lakh. The accused have been handed over to New Kamptee Police for further investigation.

According to police, the Crime Branch Unit-5 was conducting patrols to trace history-sheeters, burglars, and persons involved in illegal activities when it received specific information near Shree Star OYO Hotel on the Kamptee-Ghorpad Road on Tuesday evening.

Police were informed that a group of men with their faces covered had gathered in the fields of Krishna Developers near Ghorpad village and were allegedly planning a dacoity while carrying deadly weapons.

A police team, accompanied by independent witnesses, laid a trap and surrounded the area. At around 8 p.m., officers spotted several suspects on motorcycles allegedly discussing their plan in the darkness.

One suspect managed to escape under the cover of darkness, while five others were apprehended.

The arrested accused have been identified as Harsh alias Harya Yuvraj Ingole, Raeshal Roshan Malkham, Pintu Raju Bharti, Aman Dharmendra Gaur, and Nikhil alias Nikku Suraj Yadav.

Police recovered a sharp iron knife, a folding knife, an iron crowbar, a hammer, a nylon rope, chilli powder, mobile phones, and three motorcycles from the accused. The absconding suspect has been identified as Ravi Gupta alias Barik, whose motorcycle has also been seized. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 4,82,700.

After completing the seizure formalities, police handed over the accused and the recovered property to New Kamptee Police for further legal action.

Investigators are now verifying whether the arrested men were involved in previous dacoity or theft cases in Kamptee or other parts of Nagpur. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding accused.
