Nagpur: A 72-year-old woman was robbed of her gold mangalsutra by a chain snatcher while she was on her way to offer prayers at Chhota Tajbagh in Nagpur’s Sakkardara area. Police suspect the accused may also be linked to several similar chain-snatching and cheating incidents reported over the past month.
According to police, the elderly woman was walking towards Chhota Tajbagh early in the morning when an unidentified man approached her near Shri Shyam Misthan Bhandar.

The suspect allegedly engaged the woman in conversation and, while distracting her, snatched her 11-gram gold mangalsutra, valued at around Rs 55,000, before fleeing from the spot.
Following the incident, Sakkardara Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
During the probe, investigators identified a history-sheeter with previous involvement in chain-snatching and cheating cases as the prime suspect. Police said CCTV footage from the area captured the movements of a man matching the suspect’s description.
Based on CCTV footage and other technical evidence, police are working to trace and arrest the accused.
Investigators also suspect that the same individual may have been involved in several chain-snatching and fraud cases targeting women in the Sakkardara area over the past month.
Multiple police teams have been deployed to search hotels, lodges, and other suspected hideouts as efforts continue to apprehend the suspect.
